MBFW
We had the pleasure to attend the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at the Mary Fitzgerald square in Newtown over the weekend. As always the who's who of fashion gather round, dressed to the nine's to see what South Africa's most talented designers have to showcase. Out of these talented designers we got to see three shows, Avant Apparel alongside Tart, Suzaan Heyns and Gavin Rajah.
Avant Apparel had some lovely garments with amazing workmanship. Black sheers, creamy whites, peplum skirts and golden accessories made this collection very impressive.
Tart who is known for her plain designs using T-shirting as main fabric, took a new direction by adding a bit of glitz to the garments, I really liked the penguin suit sweat shirt she created, but the rhinestones added to the garments made it look a bit like a DIY project.
Suzaan Heyns, who never cease to amaze, collection was inspired by doors and labyrinth alleyways. She collaborated with Portugal- AMORIM. The garments out of cork was spectacular. The cork was used throughout the collection, the shoes, handbags and a lot of the garments were made out of cork,. This is what makes Suzaan not only a designer but an artist as well. The makeup and hair was also amazing.
The only downside to the MBFW is that if you were not Media or VIP, you could not get anything to drink on the MBFW grounds, which led us across the road to a little Restaurant called Sophia town, a little gem in the heart of New Town, with a menu that stretches from Mopani worms for a starter to Crocodile for mains. We enjoyed a lovely meal here and had a few drinks under the skyline of Joburg.
